The M4 Project
Stefan Krah began the M4 project on January 9th, 2006. It is an effort to break 3 original German Naval Enigma messages that are believed to be unbroken up to the present day. The project uses idle CPU time of participating users in a distributed computing attack. The signals were transmitted in the North Atlantic in 1942, so to be a part of breaking something in a similar manner to the hut dwellers at Bletchley Park is really very exciting.

Of the three messages, the second was broken on February 20th, 2006 and the third was broken on March 7th, 2006. The first message remains unbroken and the project is still underway, so anybody wishing to be a part of it can still do so. Just click the link above to get started.

Thanks in part to posts made on the M4 Project Mailing List I launched this website to Save Bletchley Park.
